Summary

Fantastic book, I absolutely loved it!Lizzie is a wonderful main character, her devotion to her family, her ability to be herself and overall her wit。At many times while reading this I was laughing out loud- soo good! It’s well written with such emotion and detail, love all the twists and suspense。

I was LOVING this story and it's plot up until the end。 (view spoiler)[When James' identity was finally revealed, I found it annoying how long it took Elizabeth to forgive him。 Like, I get it, you felt betrayed but once he explained why he did what he did (which was a very good reason), she should've been able to move past it。 I found it hard to believe that someone as devoted to the well being of her younger siblings would've let her pride get in the way of being able to feed and support them。 I was LOVING this story and it's plot up until the end。 (view spoiler)[When James' identity was finally revealed, I found it annoying how long it took Elizabeth to forgive him。 Like, I get it, you felt betrayed but once he explained why he did what he did (which was a very good reason), she should've been able to move past it。 I found it hard to believe that someone as devoted to the well being of her younger siblings would've let her pride get in the way of being able to feed and support them。 In addition, once she agreed to marry him (the first time by the tree), she said it was because of the money。。。。I'm sorry, WHAT?!? She's in love with him the whole book then has the audacity to say she would marry him for his money。 I'm glad the ending kind of redeemed their love story (with the help/meddling of the, always amusing, Lady Danbury。) (hide spoiler)] Overall, a good book with a minorly irritating section。 。。。more

This is a wonderful book。 Funny, witty, and romantic, this book had me laughing a good deal of the way through it。 James, who was first introduced in "To Catch an Heiress," is the hero of this book, and he is well matched with Elizabeth, the companion of James's aunt, Lady Danbury。 With Elizabeth thinking that James is someone else, and James suspecting Elizabeth of blackmail, they begin to fall in love nonetheless, Elizabeth tortured by the fact that she can't marry him even if she does love hi This is a wonderful book。 Funny, witty, and romantic, this book had me laughing a good deal of the way through it。 James, who was first introduced in "To Catch an Heiress," is the hero of this book, and he is well matched with Elizabeth, the companion of James's aunt, Lady Danbury。 With Elizabeth thinking that James is someone else, and James suspecting Elizabeth of blackmail, they begin to fall in love nonetheless, Elizabeth tortured by the fact that she can't marry him even if she does love him - he doesn't have enough money to support her family and send her little brother to Eton。 This is a fun, light book。 Don't look for anything too deep between the pages, but it will certainly keep you entertained on a rainy day - and give you some laughs as well! 。。。more

Could have been better。 I actually preferred James to Elizabeth。 Would I have liked things to be more fleshed out

It's a nice piece of historical fiction that isn't overbearing with historical details。 Buut, is this the same Ms。 Danbury as in Bridgerton? Actual rating 2。5/5。So I think my biggest problem with this book is how this couple literally doesn't communicate effectively。Not only the agonizingly long reconciliation at the end (which felt contrived and out of character for both, but I did feel Elizabeth was entitled to some of her anger, and that James absolutely bungled and prolonged it for no reason)。I also was incredibly mad at James for not once (NOT ONCE) talking about even a small bit of his past。 Maybe it's just me, but if a guy bea Actual rating 2。5/5。So I think my biggest problem with this book is how this couple literally doesn't communicate effectively。Not only the agonizingly long reconciliation at the end (which felt contrived and out of character for both, but I did feel Elizabeth was entitled to some of her anger, and that James absolutely bungled and prolonged it for no reason)。I also was incredibly mad at James for not once (NOT ONCE) talking about even a small bit of his past。 Maybe it's just me, but if a guy beat the shit out of a guy and pulled a gun out, played it off casually saying he worked for the War Office, I wouldn't forget that happened and moved on?? She literally just accepted what Caroline Trent said about him and his past (I guess - she mentioned this offhand at the very end), instead of asking him or him volunteering that information。I felt like THAT should've been the reason for their fight at the end, not her ripping up a check from him that could've improved her family's situation (incredibly selfish in my opinion, but I think that was her first selfish act in awhile so I'll let it slide)。Also why did James shame her into marriage saying he can provide for her, then act shocked when she saw the logic in that because she accepted without mentioning love? Like it's not like your proposal was very romantic bro??All in all, this couple simply did not make the transition from secret identity to truth revealed successfully。The author failed to convince me that Elizabeth actually loved James Sidwell and not just James Siddons。 。。。more

Julia Quinn's backlog has been a hit and miss for me, but this one is a hit。 Our leading lady found a book titled How to Marry a Marquis and try to apply that to real-life and practice with the estate manager of her boss Lady Danbury, not knowing that the estate manager is a marquis in disguise Julia Quinn's backlog has been a hit and miss for me, but this one is a hit。 Our leading lady found a book titled How to Marry a Marquis and try to apply that to real-life and practice with the estate manager of her boss Lady Danbury, not knowing that the estate manager is a marquis in disguise 。。。more

James and ElizabethThe fact that they fell in love from the suggested edicts in the book How to Marry a Marques shows that it in fact had an effect on them。 They were manipulated by Lady Danbury but they didn't care。 James and ElizabethThe fact that they fell in love from the suggested edicts in the book How to Marry a Marques shows that it in fact had an effect on them。 They were manipulated by Lady Danbury but they didn't care。 。。。more

Loads better than the first one in the series! Great story with likable lead characters。 Also, if you like Lady Danbury (and who doesn’t?) then you’ll get your fill of her witty bantering。

I am an unapologetic Lady Danbury Stan and this book was surprisingly full of my favorite mean old lady。 Our Marquis is her nephew (in the description she isn't mentioned by name as this is her debut because this was written before that other less famous series of hers) and is a classic big handsome man。 This book is full of tender moments and romantic chaos。 It is a fun read and is another jewel in Ms。 Quinn's star studded library。 I am an unapologetic Lady Danbury Stan and this book was surprisingly full of my favorite mean old lady。 Our Marquis is her nephew (in the description she isn't mentioned by name as this is her debut because this was written before that other less famous series of hers) and is a classic big handsome man。 This book is full of tender moments and romantic chaos。 It is a fun read and is another jewel in Ms。 Quinn's star studded library。 。。。more
